Can a talent be a gift?
Talents are not Gifts in that giving them away is not the only way to use them. They can be used for ourselves alone and not shared with others, if we so choose.
Talents Are Inherited / Gifts Are Received
This is perhaps the biggest and most important difference. Natural talents are those abilities inherited from one's parents and nurtured in the context of one's family.
It's mostly the former, but also a lot of the latter. One can have a natural talent for something, but if one does not practice the skills involved with the talent, the talent won't develop to the point where we would consider a person "talented".
In any profession, it is important to invest time and energy into capacity building and continuous skill development to reach excellence. Talent is not born; it can be cultivated with passion, motivation, patience and practice.
James 1:17 tells us that every gift is from God. We all have different talents and God-given gifts, but they are all important and can be used for God's kingdom.
A talent is one kind of stewardship (responsibility in the kingdom of God). The parable of the talents tells us that when we serve well in our stewardship, we will be given greater responsibilities. If we do not serve well, our stewardship will eventually be taken from us. (See Matthew 25:14–30.)
There are three types of skills: functional, self-management and special knowledge. Functional skills are abilities or talents that are inherited at birth and developed through experience and learning. Examples are: making decisions, repairing machines or calculating taxes.
Both. Some people are born with greater potential, but without hard work and practising their talent will come to nothing. Music is a good example, with some evidence of genetic differences. For example, a study of 500 twins found that 80 per cent of tone deafness is inherited.
Aptitude and talent in various fields, such as intelligence, creativity, and athleticism, are attributed to genetic factors. For example, drawing, playing an instrument, or dancing may come more naturally to some people than to others.

What does Jesus say about talent?
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him, that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
The reality is, they are born with talents and their dedication makes them unique. On the other side talent alone is not enough without practice and hard work. The talented persons need to replenish his/her talent every now and then and try to improve it with practice and learning.
Rare enough. Talent can be developed, and there are a great many people who have developed and/or had their talent developed to an extraordinary extent. People who are naturally very talented are exceptionally rare. This is obviously a quickly moving target in the modern world to be sure.

Talent is not taught, it's a natural ability to see or do something in a certain way. But skill is something that we have become good at and love doing but have been taught. It's taken hours, days, weeks, months, years to master. It's something that you get better at over time and that you desire to do and master.

In Ephesians 4:11 we are told that God gave us different gifts. He appointed some apostles, others prophets, others evangelists, others preachers and still others teachers. We should not consider ourselves superior to others because we have a talent that another does not.
But the truth is we all have hidden talents—the skills we possess that we never knew we had. We're just not always so adept at identifying what they are. Sometimes they can be right in front of us, and we miss them.

Everyone has a gift, but not every person recognizes what his or her gift is. Being able to identify it is the key to fulfilling the unique purpose of your life. However, don't confuse a gift with talent. Anyone can learn a talent, but a gift is something you're born with.

Every human being has been blessed with different abilities, talents and capabilities. We differ from each other in that we have different interests and inclinations. One might be good at music but not in drawing, while another might be great at dancing but not at writing.
Some common synonyms of talent are aptitude, bent, faculty, genius, gift, and knack. While all these words mean "a special ability for doing something," talent suggests a marked natural ability that needs to be developed.
With God's Grace, every person is gifted with at least one natural talent. Now that could be anything — some people can sing well, while some people are good at art, while some are great dancers, etc. Now it depends on every person to recognise that talent in him or her.
